Lush Lovely Jubblies – DISCONTINUED

There’s nothing quite like walking into a branch of Lush. It’s the cosmetic equivalent of walking into a sweetie shop – a mind-blowing concoction of colours and scents, with all of the products quite literally looking good enough to eat. Everything is handmade, 100% vegetarian, not tested on animals, with minimal packaging and about as ethical as it gets. So how does their Lovely Jubblies bust cream stack up against the other beauty giants available?

£16.95 buys you 100g of ‘luxurious cream to make you soft and snuggly’ and offers a tantalising mix of tiger lily petals and meadowsweet herb to tighten and firm the skin. In fact these ingredients are just two of some 24 ingredients, including Organic Cold Pressed Almond Oil, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter and Beeswax among many other components, most of which – but not all – are natural. As with all Lush products, there is a label stating the name of the Lush employee who made it (Bianca, please take a bow) and a clear best before date due to the fresh nature of the ingredients. Furthermore, customers are encouraged to bring back five clean full-size pots or tubes in return for a free fresh mask, so that the packaging can be recycled.

So far, so worthy – and if that sounds sarcastic, it’s not intentional. The main point of any review is to see if the product actually works. I’ve tested a lot of bust creams in my time and I was very much looking forward to this one for all of the reasons listed above.

Unfortunately, against all expectations, I really didn’t like Lovely Jubblies. I found the smell deeply unappealing (I believe Almond Oil is the Marmite of the essential oils – you either love it or hate it). Although the texture of the cream was certainly pleasant and absorbed well into my skin, I have to say after a month’s worth of twice-daily applications, I can see no change in the firmness of my bust whatsoever. Moreover, I just couldn’t find any difference between this product and any of the body butters I’ve ever purchased – be they budget or brand names. With the greatest of respect to Lush and all the company stands for, I think £16.95 is overpriced for an unexceptional product that doesn’t deliver what it promises. At least, it didn’t for me.

Verdict: Lush is a terrific cosmetics company with credible products and top-notch ethics. Unfortunately I just wasn’t blown away by their Lovely Jubblies.
