The bra book: The fashion formula to finding the perfect bra review

This book is not just any old text book on bras, it is clearly a labour of love by the author. Luciani is upfront about her own traumatic breast history in the introduction, so you are well aware that everything you read thereafter is written with deep meaning. The rest of the book is a comprehensive study of bras, but this personal insight into the author’s world shines through and it really feels as though she is talking directly to you, offering advice and help at every step of the way.

After dispensing with a bit of history about how bras evolved, Luciani explains the mechanism of the bra (it’s more than just two cups and a couple of straps you know!) and how to find one to fit. Not only does she cover the different styles of bra, but also the various body shapes, helping you diagnose your outline and finding the right style for you. There is a whole section on how bras should and should not fit, with plenty of top tips and conversion charts if you are buying a bra overseas.

Luciani reassures the reader about the natural way breasts will change throughout a lifetime; starting with puberty, through pregnancy and breastfeeding, to ageing. She also covers surgical changes including breast augmentation and mastectomy. She debunks many popular “bad bra” myths and gives care advice for your delicates. There is even a fun “For the guys” section where she presents some male viewpoints on the matter and offers them some purchasing tips, with a detachable bra shopping cheat sheet!

Finally she weighs up the pros (not cons) of both big and small boobs and encourages you to love whatever you are blessed with. Her over-riding messages are that you will have your own personal relationship with your breasts, everyone is different and anything is perfectly normal, even when it isn’t. A thoroughly informative and engaging read, from the bottom of Luciani’s bosom.
